Director of Finance & Accounting

As part of the leadership team, the Director of Finance + Accounting plays a vital role in directing and overseeing the financial operations for the organization. They are a member of the Executive Team, and they shepherd the company’s financial health and success. They are responsible for the overall strategy and management of company-wide finance and accounting operations, systems, analysis, records, cash management and compliance. They bring a strong financial acumen, are a strategic thinker, and have the ability to collaborate and communicate across all functions and levels within the organization. They are part of a cohesive leadership team that supports the Missions, Vision, and Community Values.


ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Financial Planning, Analysis + Reporting: Develops and implements financial plans,
    budgets, statements, reports, and forecasts. Responsible for establishing, monitoring, and
    reporting on key financial metrics, including identifying trends and making timely
    recommendations. Partners with other functions to ensure financial tools, reports and
    analysis are useful and actionable. Demonstrates enthusiasm for open book finance
    ensuring all levels within the organization understand the businesses financial position.
  • Accounting: Oversees all aspects of accounting, including but not limited to, accounts
    payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and
    maintaining the general ledger. Responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely
    recording of financial transactions, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
    Maintains strong vendor relationships through accurate and timely processing of
    payments; resolves any payment issues quickly and graciously.
  • Banking: Responsible for cash flow management, loan management, bank reconciliations,
    and overseeing credit card accounts; manages relationship with credit card processing
    services and banks.
  • Tax + Compliance: Responsible for compliance with relevant financial regulations, city,
    state and federal tax laws, and reporting and licensure requirements. Prepares annual taxes
    in collaboration with external CPA firm.
  • Financial Systems: Responsible for developing, documenting, and implementing policies,
    procedures, and technology systems to improve efficiency, enhance analytical tools and
    minimize financial risks and ensures appropriate checks and balances and ensures
    appropriate checks and balances.
  • Payroll + Benefits: In collaboration with the Director of People + Culture, provides oversight
    and management of payroll system and processes, group health benefit strategy and
    financial planning, and 401(k) and Worker’s Compensation administration, compliance, and
    audit procedures.
  • Property Leases: Responsible for maintaining, tracking, and processing lease schedules
    and payments.
  • Insurance: Facilitates renewals, provides guidance, and maintains insurance policies and
    coverage including business owner’s policies (BOP), auto and general liability, cyber
    insurance, employment practices liability insurance (EPLI) and similar.
  • Vendor Management: Maintains productive and effective relationships with vendors; holds
    them accountable for meeting service level agreements.
  • People Management: Leads and develops a high-performing Finance + Accounting team
    (4-5). Responsible for setting clear performance expectations, providing regular feedback,
    holding staff accountable and conducting bi-annual performance evaluations. Provides
    guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 10 years progressive accounting and finance experience, preferably in grocery, food production,
    retail, hospitality or similar.
  • 3+ years’ experience managing and developing a team.
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP, FASB, general ledger accounting, cost accounting, financial
    systems, and internal control methodologies. Thorough knowledge of city, state and federal
    tax and financial compliance laws.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing systems for planning, budgeting, forecasting, and
    reporting on financial information and data. Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify
    trends/issues and make timely recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent a data-driven perspective that protects the overall
    financial health of our businesses AND balance that view with the greater context of the companies
    operations, values, mission and vision. This type of approach requires discourse, empathy,
    compromise and a holistic, long-term view.
  • Strategic, entrepreneurial, process-driven, systems builder that leverages technology and a
    continuous improvement mindset to enhance operations.
  • Experience with new business development including creating pro formas, preparing financial
    analysis of new business or real estate opportunities, and/or lease negotiations preferred.

Salary Range $150,000 - $180,000 experience dependent
