Director of Grocery Sales

Reporting to the Vice President of Sales, the Director of Grocery oversees the core grocery business. This position is responsible for consistent and profitable growth, including deployment of sales programs, team development and execution of key initiatives. The Director of Grocery will lead an internal sales team and external broker team to deliver on short and long term plans to grow distribution and revenue.  

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Leadership of grocery sales strategy and execution to deliver company revenue goals.
  • Lead grocery sales team to deliver strategy, sales activities, programs, and promotions.
  • Oversee sales activities with major retail accounts and distributors while implementing promotional programs in alignment with channel strategy.
  • Collaborate cross functionally to develop and execute sales strategies to drive revenue.
  • Develop Sales Managers to improve retail, distributor, and broker performance.
  • Manage assigned accounts as business evolves, taking on role of player and coach.
  • Review sales, spending, and performance with Grocery Team.
  • Manage profitability and growth against annual budgets.
  • Lead grocery team through annual sales planning process.
  • Lead grocery team in trade management and forecasting accuracy.
  • Monitor competitive environment related to products, sales strategies, and pricing.
  • Maintain relationships with influential industry leaders and key strategic associates.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Comply with the company's food safety policies including adherence to FDA regulations, Safe Quality Food (SQF) Standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Responsible for reporting food safety and quality concerns to Department Manager.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others while leading a team.
  • Ability lead a team with direct communication, respect, and emotional intelligence.
  • Effective customer service skills to assist clients, customers, and team members.
  • Skilled in trade management systems -Vividly preferred
  • Experienced in building accurate item level forecasts across categories and products.
  • Skilled in interactive negotiation.
  • Possess effective communication skills; verbal and written.
  • Ability to create and deliver data driven business presentations.
  • Skilled in analyzing and interpreting consumer data to provide actionable insights.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field
  • 8+ years sales experience in food distribution, brokerage, and manufacturing required.
  • 5+ years experience using trade and forecasting system.
  • 5 + years leading and managing teams
  • Strong business acumen, data, analytics, and critical thinking skills

 

Geography:

Remote in the following states: AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, MA, MN, NC, NH, NY, OR, TX, and WA

25-50% domestic + Canada Travel Required

 

Compensation:

Salary Range $175,000 - $200,000 + performance bonus + ESOP benefit plan
