Sales Director

Reporting to the President, the Sales Director will be tasked with sales strategy, account management, business development, and sales execution. The Sales Director will be a part of the senior leadership team working closely with both the President and COO in outlining and driving the strategy to help grow the company. While the Owners will provide strategic guidance and thoughtful ideas, the Sales Director will be afforded great autonomy. This in-house sales role will be able to leverage existing Sales Coordinators as well as existing Sales Representatives.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Team and Company Leadership

  • Lead and manage Sales Coordinators to help them grow as professionals and help build the company culture.
  • Manage US and Canadian Sales Representatives with defined targets and service performance.
  • Champion sales strategies, process improvements, and personnel to achieve defined growth targets.
  • Partner and integrate with Marketing and Product team on go-to-market strategy and sales initiatives. Identify key product opportunities and collaborate on how to bring to market.
  • Partner with the Operations team to ensure service levels are met and collaborate on demand forecasts.

 

Sales Leadership – Growth

  • Act as the senior internal sales contact with distributors, large direct accounts, and independent retailers.
  • Identify opportunities to grow the business within existing accounts and successfully execute.
  • Identify new ‘non-traditional’ bricks and mortar (eg. Winners, Napa, Home Hardware) and Ecommerce (eg. Amazon, eBay, ‘XYZ Retailer’.com, etc..) channels and successfully drive sales growth.
  • Set annual sales targets by channel and account and successfully execute.
  • Negotiate all vendor agreements and facilitate resolution of any issues.
  • Manage big box sales cycles/processes alongside Sales Coordinators. Champion ‘retail activation’ and product knowledge sessions alongside marketing team.
  • Assist in identifying potential acquisition targets and integrations.
  • Identity key sales geographies to expand sales on existing and new products in collaboration with the Product and Marketing teams.
  • Set annual sales pricing and programs by channel and account categories based on defined strategy.

 

Results and Reporting

  • Measure, track, and report sales performance and advise Owners on areas of improvement.
  • Accountability for the sales process and accuracy of information capture in our ERP.
  • Manage real or perceived channel conflicts.
  • Lead the B2B digital portal strategy and coordinate campaigns and maintenance.
  • Establish a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool and integrate with ERP.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of sales experience, preferably in the sporting goods and/or outdoor industry. Fishing industry knowledge preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of sustained annual sales growth based on pre-defined targets.
  • Track record in successfully managing an internal sales organization and external sales rep model. Understands how to effectively manage, motivate, and support the development of employees at all levels within the team.
  • Experience driving sell through in a variety of account sizes including national key accounts and smaller specialty retail.
  • Highly skilled in data analysis and developing strategic plans.
  • Self-driven, disciplined, and goal/results-oriented leader with tireless curiosity, sales idea generation, and a positive attitude.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.

 

LOCATION

This is a remote role for candidates in the United States or Canada.  

 

COMPENSATION

The base salary range for this role is $100k-$120K USD ($130k-$160K CAD) + bonus, pending years of experience.
